SHANGHAI, May 17, 2017 - Four Koreans are the top 4 seeds after Wednesday’s Ranking Round in Shanghai, with the Canadians finishing in 33rd, 39th, 44th, and 67th. On a sunny day with limited wind, Kim Woojin, the world-record holder shot the highest score at 689, while Brian Maxwell, Hamilton Nguyen, and Brandon Xuereb where all tied at 325 at the halfway mark. The three archers all followed with an improved 2nd half to finish at 656, 654, and 652 respectively. Conner Sorley struggled somewhat throughout the day and finished in 67th with a 636.
As a team, Canada finished as the 11th seed with a combined score of 1962, and will meet the 6th seeded Indians, who shot a team score of 1986, in tomorrow afternoon’s team elimination round.
To start the day with 1st round individual elimination matches, Maxwell will meet 80th seed Alotaibi from Kazakstan, Xuereb will meet the Iranian 69th seed Pirali Najafabadi, while Nguyen is up against number 74, Tom Hall from Great Britain and Sorley meets Indrachand from India, the 46th seed at 9:15am local time.
The results from tomorrow’s first rounds of elimination matches will determine Canada’s schedule for the rest of the week, with the Shanghai World Cup stage’s finals scheduled for Sunday.
